Nature Conservation Volunteering Weekend.

NEW FOR 2025! Help us protect our precious chalk grassland.
Saturday 5th July 2025 2pm -5pm

Suitable for adults and children (aged 10+ and must be accompanied by an adult)

Join us for a special Nature Conservation Voluneering Weekend, held in celebration of National Meadows Day! This is your chance to roll up your sleeves, get stuck in and help protect one of the UK’s rarest and most biologically diverse habitats - chalk grassland.

Chalk grasslands are very rare and are of international conservation importance - The Kent Downs contains 2.5% of the world’s remaining chalk grassland, with only 700 hectares left within the Kent Downs. They’re home to a dazzling array (up to 40 species per square metre) of wildflowers, orchids, butterflies and birds, but they are also under constant threat. Without regular management, scrub takes hold, shading out delicate plants and reducing the rich tapestry of life that depends on them…that’s where you come in!

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be clearing invasive scrub from the steep chalk escarpment - helping to keep this special landscape open, sunlit and thriving. Expect breathtaking views across Kent, a great workout and the rewarding feeling of making a real difference to nature.

(We have a limited supply of gloves and tools, so bringing your own is very much appreciated! Due to the steep terrain, this may not be suitable for those with mobility concerns and some children.)
