Ancient woodland walk – date TBC
Ancient woodlands are a unique and fast disappearing habitat. Some might have started out just after the ice-age, many might not be quite so old but all of them have been here since 1600.
So much more than just the trees they often have fascinating histories and provide insights as to how our ancestors lived and often worked. They are at their best in spring when the wildflowers that live there are in flower.
Join us on this walk to discover the trees, plants and animals that go towards making ancient woodlands so special. We will spend two hours discovering ancient trees, plants, perhaps some creepy crawlies and learning how the wood is managed for the benefit of nature and people.
Chalk Grassland walk – date TBC
Southern England is home to much of the world’s chalk grassland. This unique habitat supports many beautiful and sometimes rare plants including orchids along with butterflies, grasshoppers and the odd adder.
Just being out on chalk grassland can raise the spirits on a spring & summer’s day. For this walk, lasting two hours we will explore the chalk grassland of this part of the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Join us to learn about the plants and animals that live here, some of the history and how chalk grassland is managed.
